Veneers
What are veneers made of?
Dental veneers, often referred to as minimally invasive restorations, can be made from two primary materials:
1) Porcelain
Porcelain veneers are highly popular due to their durability, stain resistance, and ability to mimic the natural translucency of tooth enamel, providing a more aesthetic and long-lasting result.
2) Composite Resin
While less expensive, are a more conservative option that can be applied in a single visit but may not be as durable or stain-resistant as porcelain.
Both materials allow for a minimally invasive approach, as they typically require minimal tooth reduction, preserving much of the natural tooth structure while enhancing its appearance.
How long to veneers last?
The longevity of dental veneers depends on several factors, including the material used, the patient’s oral hygiene habits, and lifestyle choices.
Porcelain veneers, which are known for their durability and stain resistance, can last up to 10 years or even longer with proper care.
Composite resin veneers, while less costly, typically have a shorter lifespan of around 5 to 7 years, as they are more prone to staining and chipping.
Good oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups, and avoiding habits such as teeth grinding or using teeth as tools can help extend the life of veneers. When maintained properly, veneers are a long-lasting solution for enhancing the aesthetics of a smile.
